Testimonials

I have known Jane Markley for several years in her role as a healthcare professional and ethicist. I was so impressed with her knowledge and practical sensibilities related to health policy that I asked Jane to serve as a healthcare ethics consultant to our national nonprofit organization, Aging with Dignity. In that capacity, Jane keeps us apprised of changes related to advance care planning policy and practice. On several occasions, Jane and I have co-presented professional workshops also related to advance care planning. Jane has a unique blend of skills that are the ingredients for her successful work as a consultant. She has practical experience as a nurse in the clinical setting, which gives her an understanding of how theory plays out in the real world. Her work on hospital ethics committees provides perspective on how some of the most challenging issues are debated and resolved. In addition, her awareness of policy and trends related to advance care planning make her counsel invaluable. Although she begins any project with a wide array of knowledge, I have been most impressed by Jane’s ability to locate any information necessary. She is never intimidated by the unknown, and always eager to find practical solutions to real challenges in healthcare. I have great respect for Jane and the quality of her work.

I always learn something new from Jane’s newsletters on her website – www.mjmarkley.com. Her perspectives on advance care planning and ethics are right in line with ours, and in particular, her experiences working with individuals and within organizations are extremely valuable.

We are delighted with the advance care planning services that we have received working with Jane Markley. Jane is extremely knowledgeable on this subject, and is very approachable with any kind of questions that we have had.

She makes it easy to talk about what can be a difficult issue. And, she is very good at explaining the jargon that can make advance care planning difficult to understand.

Working with Jane, we now have living will documents that are comprehensive, portable, and easy to share with loved ones. This gives us a lot of peace of mind.

We have enjoyed working with Jane both in one-on-one sessions, as well as the convenience of email communications.

Our association with Jane is not a one-time, set it and forget it sort of thing. We look forward to being able to discuss new issues and questions that come up as we move forward in our lives, and our wants/needs change.

Dan & Heidi Keifer,

“I wish I had known that Jane was doing this work.”

“I struggled for months working with my parents as my father was dying. He refused to talk with my mother or me about what was going on. How wonderful it would have been to have Jane come in as an outside, third person with whom he could talk. It would have made such a difference. She knows how to help people ‘have the conversation’ and guide them to the completion of their advance directive.”

“Everyone needs an advance directive—even if they are healthy!!”
